Showers/storage uptown.

General Topics
Does anybody have any suggestions on where to shower uptown as a bike commuter, also where I could keep my business clothes?

I thought about the YMCA uptown as its in the building I work in but it's expensive, I know black sheep offers showers and storage to commuters, but I hate to wake ethan up every morning at 7am.

Businesses that provide shower facilities

I work @ Duke Energy, and they allow cycle commuters to use showers in their Energy Center building, although it's not advertised to the employees. (I only found out about it after commuting by bike for a couple of weeks, when a co-worker told me about them.)

I'm wondering if other downtown employers (e.g., BOFA, Wachovia, City, County, etc.) have facilities their employees can use, but are not well advertised within the company. I'd like to encourage anyone reading this note who is aware of such facilities to post them here for others who may be new to commuter cycling.

Thanks!

Cheaper showers than the Y!

I've heard that there are cheaper memberships than the Y at places like the Marriot's fitness club and Peak Fitness.

Also, Ethan would probably love the excuse to get more people using his shower facilities. . .WAKE HIM UP!

In the meantime, start working on your employer and the property manager of the building where you work to add showers/lockers. . .eventually it will happen. They need to know that these are amenities that tenants want/need (not just cyclists, but runners, etc.)

Free Showers @ YMCA for Commuter Challenge

The Y is the only shower solution I know of Uptown (at Gateway Village, too). During the Commuter Challenge the Uptown and Gateway Ys will let you shower for free (if the staff is unfamiliar with the arrangement, mention Christine Ressler, Program Director at the Gateway Village Y has set it up).

Depending on how far and how strenuous your commute is, baby wipes may be good enough if you don't want to spring for a Y membership.
