The Planning Commission Zoning Committee unanimously recommended adoption of the Bicycle Parking Ordinance (with minor amendments from the Jan. 26 version shown here) at their meeting on March 2. City Council will have the final say on this important step, probably at their next zoning meeting, March 21. While Council usually supports Zoning Committee recommendations, some members regard the proposed Bicycle Parking Ordinance as a bold and controversial step. The Charlotte cycling community must ensure that all Council members know how important this measure is to us. The proposed parking facilities are crucial to the City's ability to offer transportation alternatives and to attract and keep residents who depend upon cycling to reach their jobs, shopping, recreation, and friends. More information will be posted here as soon as possible. Please check back March 12-16 to see what you can do to help! |
